Terra Farms Mumbai, a microgreen and urban farming innovator, knows the importance of nurturing the next generation of urban farmers and generously provided support and technical assistance for the concept and design of their project. They built their microfarm using a plastic kitchen rack and attached LED’s for grow lighting. They added a pump to deliver drip irrigation for their crops and thus had all the ingredients for a true micro farm.
Under supervision, the boys prepared the growing trays and seeded the “field” of mats. Then the microgreen magic of their newly constructed microfarm took over. A week later the crops were ready to display and harvest at the science exhibition. They grew out splendid crops of wheatgrass, red amaranth, pea shoots, sunflower shoots, moong and mustards all in their home using the microfarm.
The microfarm was a huge hit and the boys were animated and enthusiastic in their presentation of the concept. They would highlight the nutrition chart showing the benefits of microgreens to all who visited the exhibit. Many visitors and parents returned to ask more about growing and the availability of the seeds so they could do it. The future is bright with a new generation of microfarmers to lead the way!
